Heavy Atom- and Deuterium Isotope Effect in Bis-(Phenylethinyl)-Mercury
نویسندگان
چکیده
The influence of mercury as a heavy atom on the spin orbit coupling is investigated in bis(phenylethinyl)-mercury and its deuterated derivative. From the experimental results we draw the following conclusions: a) the symmetry of the molecule is D2 , b) the large spin orbit coupling of the mercury atom is introduced via djr p^-interaction, c) local a jr-transitions and vibronic coupling are of no importance, d) the weak deuterium effect in the radiationless decay is a consequence of the fact that the triple bonds act as strong energy acceptors.

متن کاملInfluence of Deuterium-Depleted Water on the Isotope D/H Composition of Liver Tissue and Morphological Development of Rats at Different Periods of Ontogenesis
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the reaction of organism of laboratory animals on deuterium-depleted drinking diet. To assess the cell energy metabolism, the effect of a liquid medium with different deuterium contents on isolated liver mitochondria of random bred rats and Wistar rats was studied. Methods: This experimental study on the effect of deuterium-depleted drinking water (DDW) ...
متن کاملIsotope-specific and amino acid-specific heavy atom substitutions alter barrier crossing in human purine nucleoside phosphorylase.
Computational chemistry predicts that atomic motions on the femtosecond timescale are coupled to transition-state formation (barrier-crossing) in human purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP). The prediction is experimentally supported by slowed catalytic site chemistry in isotopically labeled PNP (13C, 15N, and 2H). However, other explanations are possible, including altered volume or bond polar...
متن کاملSynthetic use of the primary kinetic isotope effect in hydrogen atom transfer: generation of α-aminoalkyl radicals.
The extent to which deuterium can act as a protecting group to prevent unwanted 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer to aryl and vinyl radical intermediates was examined in the context of the generation of α-aminoalkyl radicals in a pyrrolidine ring. Intra- and intermolecular radical trapping following hydrogen atom transfer provides an illustration of the use of the primary kinetic isotope effect in dir...
متن کاملOptical Spectroscopy of Hydrogenic Atoms
This experiment is an exercise in optical spectroscopy in a study of the spectra of “hydrogenic” atoms, i.e. atoms with one “optical” electron outside a closed shell of other electrons. Measurements include finding: the Balmer lines of atomic hydrogen and the fine structure of sodium lines; determination of the mass of the deuteron from the isotope shift. A high-resolution scanning monochromato...
